Bio Protocol on DeSci and the Future of DAOs

Paul Kohlhaas, Co-founder and CEO of Bio Protocol, joined The Crypto Beat to discuss the potential of Decentralized Science (DeSci) and how his company is using blockchain technology to reshape the funding model for scientific research.

In a conversation with Tim Copeland, Editor-in-Chief of The Block, Kohlhaas delves into the concept of DeSci, where scientific research and funding can be decentralized thanks to blockchain. This will not only change the way scientists access funding, but also promote transparency and global collaboration, as organizations and individuals can participate in funding through decentralized systems like DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations).

Bio Protocol is one of the pioneering projects in this field, leveraging blockchain to create an environment where researchers can connect directly with funders, breaking down traditional financial barriers. By applying blockchain technology, Bio Protocol hopes to scale up funding while ensuring that promising research is not hindered by bureaucratic traditional funding processes.

Kohlhaas believes that the future of science lies in allowing global communities to contribute to the funding and development of research. Through the combination of blockchain and DAOs, research projects can quickly receive resources and support that were previously only available to a few government agencies or large organizations.

“DeSci will change the way we fund and conduct scientific research,” Kohlhaas emphasized. He also expressed optimism that DeSci will thrive, bringing many opportunities for innovation in areas such as medicine, biology and other research.
