Japan's Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Reserves to 4,046 BTC, Optimizes Buying Strategy

Metaplanet Inc. (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 3350 / OTCQX: MTPLF), Japan's leading bitcoin treasury company, has announced a significant expansion of its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter of fiscal 2025. According to an April 1 announcement, the company added 696 BTC, bringing the total Bitcoin in its portfolio to 4,046 BTC.

Smart Bitcoin Buying Strategy
Instead of buying Bitcoin directly on the spot market, Metaplanet used a cash-backed put option selling strategy to generate income and optimize the purchase cost. Specifically, the company bought 696 BTC at an average price of 14,586,230 yen per Bitcoin, totaling approximately 10.152 billion yen. However, thanks to premium income from the put options – which came to 770,351,229 yen, or 50.26 BTC – the actual cost of buying Bitcoin fell to 13,479,404 yen per coin, below the market price at the time of the transaction.

Impressive Investment Performance
Metaplanet shared key performance metrics on its growing Bitcoin holdings. The company measures performance using BTC yield, which is the change in Bitcoin per fully diluted share. Results show:

- From 1/7/2024 to 30/9/2024: BTC yield reaches 41.7%
- From 1/10/2024 to 31/12/2024: BTC yield skyrockets to 309.8%
- From 1/1/2025 to 31/3/2025: BTC yield continues to reach 95.6%

These figures reflect that Metaplanet's Bitcoin strategy is delivering significant shareholder value and strengthening the company's position in the public Bitcoin treasury space.

Forecast for More Bitcoin Purchases in the Future
Metaplanet continues to raise capital through stock options and bond issuances to fund new Bitcoin purchases. With a smart accumulation strategy, the company can continue to expand its Bitcoin holdings without raising too much direct capital, while effectively leveraging financial instruments to optimize profits.

Metaplanet's increased Bitcoin accumulation reflects the company's confidence in the future of this digital asset, and also shows the trend of more and more businesses turning to Bitcoin as part of their long-term treasury strategy.
